No More Drug Ads!
Let’s work to outlaw the advertising of drugs on television. This will take a great deal of work at ground level because the pharmaceutical industry has Congress in its pocket. One of you organizer types please show us how to go about complaining to the TV stations and how to persuade hundreds and hundreds more to join in this campaign. No doctor has the time to sit down and explain to all his patients why concoction “X” will react negatively with the medicines the patient already takes. I do believe in being the foremost partner in my medical care, and I’m sure doctors sigh as I lay down my list of questions. But who is really benefitting from suggesting all these medicines that you and I do not have the expertise to judge? Only the pharmaceutical industry.
And why in the world should parents have to explain erectile dysfunction to seven-year-olds?? These ads are on at all times of the day, as are eye-catching ads about birth control pills. I chanced onto an ad about “natural male enhancement” and thought I had tuned in to a raunchy comedy show. A daughter-in-law explained that this was not the case, that this was an honest-to-goodness ad, and it plays over and over. Why should our kids be exposed to this? Their welfare and, yes, their innocence is worth far more than the millions the drug companies make. Somebody, please lead the charge. All you grandmas and grandpas, speak up, please!
